Pablo Zuriel Miranda, the accused killer who walked out of the Atkinson County Jail Sunday morning, has been apprehended after two days on the run.
Sunday, Pearson residents woke to an alarming law enforcement presence in the city. Miranda, who had been in the Atkinson County Jail since May of 2024, was helping load food trays at the jail on Sunday morning when he ran away. “I’m sorry. I failed you. We made bad decisions and now the community has to suffer for it. And I’m sorry for that,” said Atkinson County Sheriff David Moore Monday in an interview with WALB.
Miranda had been arrested and charged with malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault for allegedly killing Johan Romero, 27, of Pearson, on May 1, 2024. He was considered armed and dangerous.
Monday at 8 a.m., Sheriff Moore released a photo of a shirtless Miranda handcuffed in the back of a patrol car. “Got him,” said a message that accompanied the photo. He did not release any further information regarding Miranda’s capture, simply saying in a text message, “Details to come.”
Monday afternoon, the FBI became involved in the search for Miranda, releasing a wanted poster and announcing a $10,000 reward for information leading to Miranda’s arrest.
