The Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets turned to a powerful ground game Friday night in Homerville, rolling up 389 rushing yards on the way to a convincing 42-7 road victory over Clinch County. Clinch struck first, scoring on a 36-yard run to take a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter. Jeff Davis answered with a 3-yard touchdown run by Kobe Hill, tying the game at seven. From there, it was all Jackets.
Jeff Davis broke the game open with a big second quarter. Hill raced 44 yards for his second touchdown, while Mark Durden added touchdown runs of 10 and 68 yards as the Jackets took control. Durden wasn’t finished. He added a 3-yard touchdown run later in the game to finish with three rushing scores. Garrison Coleman capped the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run.
The Jackets finished with 389 yards of total offense — all on the ground — averaging 9 yards per carry. Jeff Davis attempted just one pass all night. Durden led the rushing attack with 156 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries, averaging 12 yards per attempt. Hill topped the century mark as well, rushing eight times for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Coleman added 42 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, while Jacob Laney rushed for 42 yards on just three attempts.
The Jeff Davis defense was just as impressive after Clinch’s early score. The Jackets did not allow another point the rest of the night, holding the Panthers to 248 total yards. Durden also made an impact defensively, recording an interception that stopped a Clinch drive deep in Jeff Davis territory.
Jeff Davis finished the night with six rushing touchdowns, went 4-for-4 in the red zone, and committed just four penalties for 20 yards. After falling behind 7-0 early, the Jackets responded with 42 unanswered points to bring a statement road win back home from Homerville.
