The Jeff Davis County Joint Development Authority (JDA) held a called meeting Tuesday, with the primary agenda item centered on approving a permanent easement agreement with the City of Hazlehurst for a proposed lift station beside the Bassford Warehouse property on Hatton Still Road.
Representatives explained that the agreement grants the city a permanent easement for the installation and maintenance of the lift station while allowing the Joint Development Authority to retain ownership of the property. Board members noted that using an easement, rather than transferring ownership through a deed, provides greater flexibility and protects the authority’s long-term interests.
Under the terms discussed, the easement may be terminated if the property is not used for its intended purpose for 90 consecutive days or upon written request under the conditions outlined in the agreement.
Following discussion, board members unanimously approved the easement agreement.
In other business, the Joint Development Authority:
- Approved: Bo Reese as Chairman; Lonnie Roberts as Vice Chairman; and Terry Stone as Secretary/Treasurer for the new fiscal year.
- Approved updates to the authority’s bank account signers.
The meeting concluded with members signing the easement documents.
