The Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets return to the Pinelands Friday night, October 23, for a home matchup against the Cook County Hornets. But the evening will be about more than football as Jeff Davis celebrates Brotherhood Night, recognizing the lasting connections among generations of Yellow Jacket players.
The Jackets enter the game with a 6–1 record, following a hard-fought 28–25 loss to Thomasville last Friday. Despite suffering their first defeat of the season, Jeff Davis demonstrated its ability to compete against a strong Bulldogs team, keeping the contest close until the end.
Under head Coach Lance Helton, the Yellow Jackets have emphasized a team culture built around accountability, perseverance and brotherhood. Those values will take on special meaning Friday as the program honors the players who helped build its traditions.
Jeff Davis opened the season with six consecutive victories, including wins over Vidalia, Clinch County, Metter, McIntosh County Academy, Fitzgerald and Bacon County.
The Jackets’ 37–0 victory over Bacon County on October 8 marked their sixth straight win before the narrow loss at Thomasville.
Friday’s matchup gives Jeff Davis an opportunity to regain momentum as the regular season enters its final weeks. Cook, meanwhile, comes into the contest following a 21–14 victory over Fitzgerald on October 16. The Hornets will look to build on that result when they travel to Hazlehurst.
With both teams coming off competitive performances, Friday’s game promises another important test for the Yellow Jackets.
Brotherhood Night celebrates something that extends beyond the scoreboard. For former Yellow Jacket players, the bonds formed through practices, Friday night games, victories and difficult losses often remain long after their playing days are over.
The evening offers an opportunity to recognize those who have worn the navy and gold and the traditions they have passed down to today’s players. The message is simple: Once a Player. Always a Brother.
The Yellow Jackets and Hornets are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 23, at Jeff Davis High School Stadium.
With Brotherhood Night bringing added meaning to the occasion, Yellow Jacket fans are encouraged to fill the stands and support the team as it enters the final stretch of the season.
After Friday’s game, Jeff Davis travels to Berrien County on October 30 before returning home November 6 to face Brooks County on Senior Night.
When you’re wearing navy, you’re as good as gold!
