A six-year-old Georgia cold case has taken a major turn following advances in DNA testing. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Thursday that Rashad Jackson, 27, of DeKalb County, has been arrested and charged with murder and other offenses in connection with the 2020 shooting death of 21-year-old Tyler Hall in Norcross.
Investigators say advanced DNA testing helped identify Jackson as a suspect after the GBI Cold Case Unit took another look at the evidence.

GBI Announces Arrest in 2020 Cold Case Death of Tyler Hall in Norcross, GA
On Sunday, August 30, 2020, the Norcross Police Department requested the GBI’s Atlanta Regional Investigative Office based in Conyers to assist with a death investigation in Norcross, GA. Tyler Hall, age 21 at the time, of Norcross, GA, was found deceased in his home with multiple gunshot wounds.
In February 2024, the GBI Cold Case Unit partnered with Othram, Inc., for advanced DNA testing. Othram, based in The Woodlands, Texas, is a leader in Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing used to develop comprehensive genealogical profiles. Utilizing new advances in DNA evidence testing, Jackson was identified as a suspect.
Jackson is currently incarcerated with the Georgia Department of Corrections on unrelated charges.
The GBI would like to thank the Norcross Police Department, the Georgia Department of Corrections, the DeKalb County Police Department, Emory Healthcare Public Safety, and the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance during this investigation.
Over the past 6 years, the GBI’s Atlanta Regional Investigative Office, the GBI Cold Case Unit, and the Norcross Police Department have remained committed to seeking answers in Tyler Hall’s death.
