HAZLEHURST, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has announced a significant development in the investigation into the death of a Jeff Davis County teenager. The agency released the following statement providing updated information on the case.

GBI Arrests Two People for Murder in Hazlehurst
McCoy’s body was taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy was conducted.
Corouthers and Smith were arrested by the GBI and Hazlehurst Police Department on Friday, August 7, 2026, and booked into the Jeff Davis County Jail. The Georgia State Patrol and Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Department also assisted in the arrests.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the GBI’s Regional Investigative Office in Douglas at 912-389-4103.
