A Hazlehurst native is inviting the community to experience his latest collection of artwork during a month-long exhibition at the Okefenokee Heritage Center in Waycross. Artist Don Yaun, who was born and raised in Hazlehurst, will present “A Sense of Place,” an exhibition featuring 50 paintings created over the past six years. The exhibit opens Sunday, August 2, and will remain on display through August 30, 2026.
An opening reception will be held Sunday, August 2, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Okefenokee Heritage Center, located at 1460 North Augusta Avenue in Waycross. The reception is open to the public. According to Yaun, A Sense of Place reflects his continuing exploration of the landscapes, architecture, and places that have inspired him throughout Georgia and beyond.
The exhibition also features three paintings created especially for Waycross, including:
- Susan Clark Home
- Phoenix Park
- Okefenokee Swamp Park
Yaun said he wanted to share news of the exhibition with his hometown community. “Since I was born and raised in Hazlehurst, I thought it appropriate to let everyone know about my upcoming exhibition,” he said. The exhibit offers visitors an opportunity to experience a wide variety of landscapes and scenes that celebrate the beauty and character of the South through Yaun’s distinctive artistic style.
