Jeff Davis stayed within striking distance through five innings Tuesday, but Emanuel County Institute pulled away late to hand the Jackets a 6-1 road loss.
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings before ECI pushed across the first run in the bottom of the fourth when Johnson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Jeff Davis answered in the top of the fifth. Ava Bohannon delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home the tying run and make it a 1-1 game.
ECI responded in the bottom half of the inning, using RBI singles from Hillman, Johnson and Nobles to regain the lead and move ahead 4-1. The Bulldogs added two more runs before the game was over for the 6-1 final.
The Jackets finished with eight hits, led by another strong performance from Gabby Taylor, who went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Bohannon went 1-for-2 and drove in Jeff Davis’ lone run. Briley Reagin worked five innings in the circle, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking three.
ECI finished with 11 hits and played error-free defense. Durden earned the win, allowing one run on eight hits over seven innings while striking out five and issuing no walks.
Jeff Davis will look to bounce back Thursday when the Jackets travel to face Coffee County for a 4pm start.
