Jeff Davis High School Softball struggled to get its offense going Monday as Wayne County handed the Jackets a 9-0 loss. Wayne County took an early lead in the bottom of the first when a Jeff Davis error allowed one run to score.

The Yellow Jackets remained within striking distance until Wayne County added three runs in the third. Scott delivered the biggest blow with a two-run home run to center field, and Sluder followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.

Wayne County continued to add to its advantage and held Jeff Davis scoreless through six innings to secure the 9-0 victory.

Mikelynn Jones recorded the Jackets’ only hit of the game, finishing 1-for-2 at the plate.

Gabby Taylor started in the circle for Jeff Davis, allowing four runs — two earned — on two hits over 2⅓ innings. Anna Grace Alligood worked three innings in relief, allowing five runs, two earned, on four hits while striking out two and walking two.

Wayne County pitcher Sluder limited Jeff Davis to one hit over six innings, striking out three and walking one. Scott led the Wayne County offense, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs, including the two-run home run. Wayne County also stole four bases in the game.

The Jackets will have an opportunity to bounce back quickly as they travel to Brooks County today for a doubleheader.
