Jeff Davis Middle School Softball built an early lead and then held off a late push by J.R. Trippe Middle School to earn a 6-5 victory Monday.
The Jackets did much of their damage in the bottom of the second inning. After a pair of J.R. Trippe errors, Paxtan Felix doubled down the left-field line and River Bruce singled to center, helping JDMS put runs on the board and take control of the game.
J.R. Trippe refused to go quietly, however, cutting into a four-run Jeff Davis advantage with runs coming on a sacrifice bunt, groundout, single and an error. Despite the late pressure, the Jackets held on for the one-run victory.
Jaiden Folsom went the distance in the circle for Jeff Davis to earn the win. She allowed seven hits and five runs, only one earned, over seven innings while striking out seven and walking just one. Felix delivered a strong performance from the No. 9 spot in the lineup, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Jeff Davis at the plate. The Jackets also turned a double play defensively as they protected their lead and closed out the 6-5 win.
For J.R. Trippe, Emma Kate Lindsey drove in two runs, while Dani Williams and Bailee Fondren each collected two hits.
It was another hard-fought win for JDMS, with the Jackets doing enough early and then finishing the job when J.R. Trippe made its late charge.
