A Jeff Davis County 4-H member recently represented the community on the state stage, competing alongside some of Georgia’s top youth leaders during the 83rd Annual Georgia 4-H State Congress. Held July 21-24 at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia in Atlanta, the annual event brought together outstanding 4-H members from across the state to compete in Project Achievement and Leadership in Action contests while celebrating excellence in leadership, service, and personal development.
Representing Jeff Davis County, Vincent Ly competed in the Workforce Preparation and Career Development Project Achievement area against six other finalists from across Georgia. As part of the competition, Vincent presented on the topic of teacher burnout, exploring an important issue affecting today’s education workforce.
The Workforce Preparation and Career Development project area allows students to examine the psychological, sociological, educational, and economic factors that influence careers and workforce development. Through research, public speaking, and community engagement, participants gain valuable skills while exploring topics that prepare them for future success.
More than 200 youth delegates competed in 53 different Project Achievement categories during State Congress. The highest-scoring competitor in each project area earned the prestigious title of Master 4-H’er, one of the organization’s highest honors.
Project Achievement is a cornerstone of Georgia 4-H, helping students develop leadership, communication, record-keeping, critical thinking, and public speaking skills that extend far beyond the competition. High school participants select a project area that matches their interests, conduct in-depth research, prepare formal presentations, complete community service activities, and participate in interviews with professionals in their chosen field.
State Congress is made possible through the support of organizations committed to positive youth development, including Georgia’s EMCs, Atlanta Gas Light, the Georgia 4-H Foundation, the Georgia Master 4-H Club, the Harley Langdale Jr. Foundation, Kelly Loeffler and Jeff Sprecher, META, and Chemours.
Georgia 4-H continues to empower young people by building leadership skills, strengthening relationships, and encouraging community involvement through programs offered by UGA Extension offices across the state.
