A new chapter in education begins next week as Jeff Davis County officially opens its new Jeff Davis Primary School, a state-of-the-art campus that will serve more than 800 students in Pre-K through second grade. The community is invited to celebrate this milestone during a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, followed by an Open House from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. Families, community members, and supporters are encouraged to attend and experience the district’s newest educational facility. The new campus brings Jeff Davis Primary School and Jeff Davis Pre-K together under one roof, providing students with a modern learning environment designed with safety, efficiency, and future growth in mind.

Built for Learning

Every aspect of the new school was intentionally designed to create an environment where students can thrive.

One of the building’s most unique features is its pinwheel design, which places each classroom wing within equal proximity to essential areas such as the cafeteria, front office, gymnasium, media center, and other shared resources. This thoughtful layout improves efficiency throughout the school day while ensuring convenient access for every student.

Each grade level also has its own dedicated wing, making it easier for students, parents, visitors, and staff to locate classrooms and navigate the building.

The school’s playground is located adjacent to the lunchroom, allowing students to transition quickly from lunch to recess. That design means less travel time and more time for students to enjoy both lunch and outdoor play.

The campus also includes flexible instructional spaces that can easily be reconfigured if enrollment grows, giving the district the ability to adapt classrooms and shared learning areas as future needs change.

Designed with Families in Mind

Parents will notice improvements beyond the classroom as well. The new campus features a significantly expanded parent pickup staging area, helping improve traffic flow and making afternoon dismissal safer and more efficient.

Students will also benefit from a multifunctional gymnasium that provides additional space for physical education classes while also serving as a venue for various events, and other school activities.

District Facilities Reorganized

The opening of the new primary school also allows several district departments and programs to relocate.

The former Jeff Davis Primary School, located at 71 Burketts Ferry Road, will become home to:

  • Jeff Davis County Board of Education
  • Choices Academy
  • Coastal Plains High School
  • Jeff Davis Head Start

  • Special Education
  • Student Services

Meanwhile, the Jeff Davis County Schools Annex, located at 52 Yellow Jacket Drive, will house the district’s:

The new Jeff Davis Primary School marks an important milestone for Jeff Davis County Schools. Beyond providing a beautiful new facility for more than 800 of the district’s youngest learners, the campus was designed to support student success, improve operational efficiency, and provide room for growth for many years to come.

As students walk through its doors for the first time, they won’t simply be entering a new building—they’ll be stepping into a school designed to inspire learning, strengthen community, and help shape the future of Jeff Davis County’s next generation of Yellow Jackets.
