Residents planning to travel south toward Jacksonville, Florida, or the Georgia coast should be aware that a portion of Interstate 95 in Camden County has been closed due to wildfires and heavy smoke, creating hazardous driving conditions.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is working to establish a fully signed detour for drivers traveling through the area. Motorists are encouraged to check road conditions before traveling. Real-time traffic updates are available by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 mobile app.
Drivers planning to travel along I-95 through southeast Georgia should expect delays and consider alternate routes until the interstate reopens.

Notes:
All lanes are blocked southbound/northbound I-95 at Ocean’s Hwy to the Florida State Line (mm 29 – mm 1) due to a wildfire that is causing heavy smoke in the area in Camden County. There are detours in place for the area:
- For northbound travelers, take exit 3 to SR 40, SR 25/US 17, exit 29
- For southbound travelers, take exit 29 to SR 25/US 17, SR 40, exit 3
Emergency responders are currently working to reopen the lanes as quickly and as safely as possible. Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid this area and seek an alternate route in order to avoid extreme delays.
