Excitement is building across Jeff Davis County as students prepare to begin the school year in the brand-new Jeff Davis Primary School. Serving students in Pre-K through second grade, the new campus represents a significant investment in the future of education and will welcome over 800 young learners when school begins.
Leading the school is Principal, Dr. Shelly McBride, alongside Assistant Principal, Mr. Michael Creamer and Pre-K Director, Dr. Denise Haley, who will oversee the district’s Pre-K program housed at the new primary school. Together, they and the faculty have spent the last few weeks preparing classrooms, organizing the new facility, and getting ready to welcome students and families for what promises to be an exciting school year.
In a message to parents, students, and the community, Dr. McBride shared her enthusiasm for the year ahead:
“As we begin a new school year at Jeff Davis Primary School, we are filled with excitement and anticipation for all that lies ahead. This year is especially meaningful as we welcome our students, families, and staff into our beautiful new school building. This facility represents much more than a new place to learn—it reflects our community’s investment in the future of our children. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to provide our students with a safe, modern learning environment where they can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
At Jeff Davis Primary School, our top priorities are student safety and high-quality instruction. We are committed to creating a school where every child feels safe, valued, and supported each day they walk through our doors. Our dedicated teachers and staff have worked hard to prepare engaging classrooms and meaningful learning experiences that will inspire curiosity, build confidence, and help every student reach their fullest potential. We look forward to partnering with our families throughout the year as we work together to ensure every child has a successful and memorable school experience. We can’t wait to welcome our Yellow Jackets back and make this our best year yet!”
As the first day of school approaches, families are encouraged to stay connected through the Jeff Davis Primary School Facebook page, where afternoon dismissal procedures have already been posted. Morning drop-off procedures will be shared very soon to help parents prepare for the first day of school. Hazlehurst Now will also be updating information as it comes.
The community is also invited to celebrate this exciting milestone during the official ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 6. Following the ceremony, the school will host an Open House from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., giving families and community members an opportunity to tour the beautiful new facility before students fill its halls.
With a new building, dedicated educators, and a shared commitment to student success, Jeff Davis Primary School is ready to begin an exciting new chapter in the history of Jeff Davis County Schools.
