Gabby Taylor delivered another strong performance in the circle Wednesday, tossing a complete-game shutout as Jeff Davis defeated Berrien County, 5-0.
The Jackets wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Anna Grace Alligood singled home a run in the bottom of the first to give Jeff Davis an early 1-0 lead. Jeff Davis broke the game open in the second. Ava Bohannon doubled to center field to bring home two runs, and a Berrien error allowed two more to score, extending the Jackets’ advantage to 5-0.
That was more than enough support for Taylor, who kept Berrien off the scoreboard throughout the game to secure the shutout victory.
Jeff Davis also got a big performance from the bottom of the order. Briley Reagin, batting ninth, went a perfect 3-for-3 to lead the Jackets in hits. Bohannon finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Alligood contributed the first-inning RBI single.
The Jackets were equally strong defensively, playing error-free softball behind Taylor. Mikelynn Jones led Jeff Davis with four defensive chances. Berrien managed five hits in the game but was unable to turn any of them into runs.
The win continues a strong stretch for Jeff Davis, which has now won four straight games — defeating Coffee County 5-2, Pierce County 9-4, Thomasville 9-2 and Berrien 5-0.
The Jackets will travel to Wayne County on Monday for their next game.
