MACON, Ga. — New details are emerging after a weekend shooting at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon that has now left 12 young people wounded. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says a 12th victim has been identified in the shooting, which occurred shortly after midnight Sunday during a large gathering at the park. The additional victim is a 19-year-old man who later sought treatment for a gunshot wound that was not considered life-threatening.
The discovery raises the number of people wounded from the 11 initially reported to 12. Two of the victims remained in critical condition in the latest update, while the others were reported in stable condition.
Investigators have also provided new information about what happened before the shooting. According to Bibb County Sheriff David Davis, the group had originally gathered at an Airbnb in neighboring Jones County for an 18th birthday celebration. The property owner reportedly asked the group to leave after learning that some people at the gathering had firearms.
The celebration then moved to Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon. Investigators say another group later arrived at the park. An exchange of words followed, firearms were displayed and gunfire erupted between the groups. Authorities are reviewing surveillance video from the park as part of the investigation.
The victims include teenagers and young adults ranging in age from 17 to 19. Investigators have been interviewing witnesses and examining evidence as they work to determine exactly what led to the gunfire and identify those responsible.
As of the latest publicly available update reviewed by HN Monday morning, no arrests had been announced in connection with the park shooting. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate. HN will continue following the case and provide additional information as it is released.
This is a developing story.
