ALAMO, GA — Wheeler County Schools officials say classes will resume as scheduled after a bomb threat prompted the evacuation of the Wheeler County K-12 School on Thursday morning. According to a notification from Wheeler County Schools (WCS), the district received an anonymous bomb threat message early in the day. Following established safety protocols, school staff immediately evacuated the building out of an abundance of caution.
The district worked alongside the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate the threat. Trained personnel and search dogs conducted a thorough search of the campus. After completing the investigation, authorities determined the building was safe for occupancy and cleared the campus to reopen. The school reopened at 12:00 p.m. today, and officials said they look forward to welcoming students back for the start of classes.
In a statement, Wheeler County Schools thanked its public safety partners and staff for their quick response, saying, “Thank you to our safety partners and our staff for a swift response. Let’s work together for a great start with students tomorrow!”
