The 2026 season is set to begin for the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets Softball Team, and while this year’s roster may be young, expectations remain high for a program coming off another successful campaign. Head Coach Brooke Wilcox enters her second season at the helm after guiding the Lady Jackets to an impressive 22-12 record in 2025. She’ll once again be joined by assistant coaches Kaleb Brown, Hunter Foster, and Jeff McGowan as the team looks to build on last year’s success.
Despite having just two seniors and one junior on this year’s varsity roster, Wilcox believes the team’s work ethic and commitment have them ready for the challenge. Leading the way are seniors Ava Bohannon and Madison Joyce, two players Wilcox says have set the standard for the program. “Ava and Madison do things the right way and represent our program well,” Wilcox said.
The Yellow Jackets have also enjoyed a productive preseason. “They’ve had a strong summer,” Wilcox said. “They work very hard and truly care about the success of the program.” That dedication has already earned statewide recognition, as Jeff Davis enters the season ranked No. 6 in the state’s preseason rankings, a testament to the respect the program has earned despite its youthful roster.
The Lady Jackets will officially open the 2026 campaign on Wednesday, August 5, traveling to Rochelle to face Wilcox County at 5:30. The opener marks the beginning of a challenging schedule that features both quality non-region opponents and region competition as Jeff Davis prepares for another postseason push.
Fans won’t have to wait long to cheer on the Yellow Jackets at home. Jeff Davis hosts ECI on Tuesday, August 11 at 6 pm. With experienced leadership, a talented young roster, and a coaching staff focused on continued growth, the Yellow Jackets are poised for another exciting year on the diamond.
