The Jeff Davis Middle School Softball Team opened its 2026 softball season with a doubleheader against Appling County, dropping both contests in a pair of competitive games. Although the Yellow Jackets came up short on the scoreboard, the opening day provided valuable experience for the Jeff Davis squad as players settled into game action for the first time this season.
Jeff Davis battled throughout the opener before falling 5-4 in a closely contested game. The Jackets received contributions throughout the lineup from Kali SeSay, Sadie Mercer, Ellie Worth, Paislee Davis, Riley Floyd, Leslee Griffin, Zoey Bohannon, Kenna Smith, Kyla Thrift, and Kaylee Mason, who each helped keep the game competitive.
Defensively, Jeff Davis showed flashes of strong play while continuing to build chemistry on the field. At the plate, the Yellow Jackets continued to put pressure on Appling County and stayed within striking distance until the final out. Despite the one-run loss, the effort demonstrated the determination and resilience of a team that never stopped competing.
The Jackets also faced Appling County in the second game of the doubleheader, giving every player additional opportunities to gain valuable game experience early in the season. While Jeff Davis dropped both contests, opening day offered an important opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate the team’s progress and for players to continue developing in live game situations.
With a young roster and an entire season still ahead, the experience gained in Thursday’s doubleheader provides a foundation the Yellow Jackets will look to build on in the weeks ahead.
