JDMS Softball battled back from an early deficit and took the lead midway through Tuesday’s game, but Tattnall County Middle School pulled away late to defeat the Jackets 11-7.
Tattnall jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Jeff Davis worked its way back into the game. The Jackets’ rally paid off in the bottom of the fourth when singles from Paxtan Felix, River Bruce and Jaiden Folsom helped JDMS surge ahead 6-4.
Tattnall answered in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs to regain a 7-6 lead. Jeff Davis responded again in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of a Tattnall error to tie the game at 7-7.
The deciding inning came in the sixth. Tattnall plated four runs on three RBI singles and a double to move back in front 11-7, and the Jackets were unable to mount another comeback.
Jeff Davis collected nine hits in the game. Folsom led the offense with three RBIs while going 2-for-4 at the plate. Zoe Mercer and River Bruce also recorded two hits each.
Folsom went the distance in the circle, pitching all seven innings. She allowed 11 runs, five earned, on 11 hits while striking out seven and walking seven. The Jackets also turned a double play defensively.
Despite the loss, JDMS showed plenty of fight, overcoming the early four-run deficit, taking the lead in the fourth and battling back once again to tie the game in the fifth before Tattnall’s late surge.
