JDMS Softball out hit Toombs County Middle School Thursday, but a five-run second inning proved costly as the Jackets fell 10-6.
Toombs struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, but Jeff Davis answered quickly. Paislee Davis delivered a two-run double in the top of the second to help the Jackets take a 3-1 lead.
The momentum shifted in the bottom half of the inning when Toombs scored five runs on just one hit. A Jeff Davis error that allowed three runs to score was the biggest blow of the inning, putting Toombs ahead 6-3. Toombs added another run in the third to extend its advantage to 7-3. Jeff Davis continued to battle and ultimately scored six runs in the game, but the Jackets were unable to overcome the deficit.
JDMS finished with seven hits compared to five for Toombs. Davis, River Bruce and Jaiden Folsom each collected two hits for the Jackets. Davis led Jeff Davis with two RBIs, finishing 2-for-3 from the No. 8 spot in the lineup.
Folsom pitched all six innings for JDMS, allowing 10 runs but only two earned on five hits. She struck out four and walked four. Defensively, the Jackets turned one double play.
While Jeff Davis generated more hits than Toombs, unearned runs made the difference. Eight of Toombs County’s 10 runs were unearned in the 10-6 loss.
