The Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets opened the 2026 softball season in impressive fashion Wednesday, using patience at the plate, dominant pitching, and solid defense to roll past Wilcox County, 16-1, in Rochelle.
After a competitive start, Jeff Davis broke the game wide open in the third inning, erupting for nine runs while showcasing the disciplined offensive approach that coaches have emphasized throughout the offseason.
The Lady Jackets consistently worked deep counts and refused to chase pitches outside the strike zone, finishing the game with an impressive 16 walks. Briley Reagin and Ava Bohannon led the way with three walks each, helping Jeff Davis keep constant pressure on the Wilcox County defense.
In the circle, Anna Grace Alligood turned in a strong opening-day performance. The sophomore allowed just one run on three hits over four innings, striking out five batters while keeping Wilcox County’s offense off balance throughout the contest.
Jeff Davis was equally sharp on the defensive side, playing error-free softball behind Alligood and giving the Patriots few opportunities to build any momentum.
Offensively, the Lady Jackets combined timely hitting with outstanding plate discipline. Gabby Taylor drove in a team-high three runs while going 1-for-2 at the plate. Abbie Williams, Madison Joyce, and Taylor each collected a hit as Jeff Davis capitalized on nearly every scoring opportunity.
Wilcox County’s offense was limited to three hits, with Gibbs, Martin, and Owens recording one hit each. Gibbs also drove in the Patriots’ lone run.
The convincing victory gives the Lady Yellow Jackets a 1-0 start to the season and provides early momentum as they prepare for a challenging schedule ahead.
Jeff Davis returns to action on Monday when the Lady Jackets travel to East Laurens looking to build on an impressive opening-night performance.
