Jeff Davis Cross Country turned in another strong performance at the 2nd Annual For Coffee XC Invitational, bringing home two team championships, two runner-up finishes and 17 individual Top 10 medals.
The JDMS boys and girls both captured first place, while the Jeff Davis High School boys and girls each finished second behind host Coffee. The middle school boys continued an impressive run with their fifth consecutive meet victory, while the middle school girls earned their third team win of the season.
JDMS boys capture fifth straight! The JDMS boys dominated the two-mile race, placing five runners among the top seven and finishing with just 21 team points.
Cason Roberson led the entire field, winning the race with a time of 11:37.10. Abel Cabrera was right behind him in second at 11:51.10.
Three more Jackets earned Top 10 medals: Alejandro Gonzalez finished fifth in 12:23.90, Rhett Wilkerson was sixth in 12:27.30 and Derek Fitzwater placed seventh in 12:28.50.
Other JDMS boys finishers were Yobani Cruz Santos (11th, 12:44.80), Nathan Rayo (13th, 12:54.10), Ivan Ortiz (17th, 13:12.20), Fausto Espino-Flores (21st, 13:30.40), Jai’Anthony Benton (23rd, 14:10.70), Anyel Lucas-Morales (26th, 14:27.30), Nolan Worth (30th, 14:38.50), Austin Ellis (37th, 14:53.50), Jacob Wilkerson (45th, 16:03.60), Gabriel Turner (59th, 17:29.40), Joshua Edwards (61st, 17:32.10) and Aiden Puckett (67th, 18:02.50).
Jeff Davis finished with 21 points, well ahead of runner-up Atkinson County’s 42.
JDMS girls claim third meet victory! The JDMS girls also put together an impressive team performance, placing five runners in the Top 7 and winning the meet with 24 points.
Dakota Mincey led Jeff Davis with a runner-up finish, completing the two-mile course in 13:47.80. She was followed by Rayleigh Pierce, fourth at 14:15.90; Valerie Porras, fifth at 14:28.50; Zoe Odum, sixth at 14:42.10; and Amy Miller, seventh at 14:46.90. All five earned individual Top 10 medals.
Other Jeff Davis finishers included Winry Clark (12th, 15:30.90), Zaylee Dukes (25th, 16:54.10), Jacqueline Lara (27th, 17:06.70), Breyzi Trejo (29th, 17:27.40), Kamila Barragan (33rd, 18:23.10) and Maria Aleman (49th, 20:06.00).
JDMS finished comfortably ahead of second-place Coffee Middle School, 24-56.
The Jeff Davis varsity boys placed three runners in the Top 10 on their way to a second-place team finish.
Mario Franco led the Jackets, placing fifth in 18:13.60, while Luke Relihan was right behind him in sixth with a time of 18:14.30. Peyton Hamilton gave Jeff Davis its third Top 10 medal with a 10th-place finish in 19:37.90.
Duke Mincey finished 20th in 20:30.40, followed by Ivan Sanchez (29th, 21:24.20), Chase Hughes (32nd, 21:29.50), Harrison Miller (49th, 22:43.30) and Preston Godwin (69th, 25:05.00).
Jeff Davis scored 61 points to finish second behind Coffee’s 34 and ahead of Camden County’s 74.
The varsity girls also claimed second place and put four runners in the Top 10.
Avery Haley led Jeff Davis with an outstanding runner-up finish, crossing in 22:40.60. Brenlee Boatright placed fourth in 23:05.60, Jade Franco finished fifth in 23:08.90 and Marley Powell was 10th in 24:11.90, giving all four individual medals.
Cadence Ellis was close behind in 12th at 24:50.40, followed by Laysie Lewis (13th, 24:53.50), Josemar Avila (18th, 26:07.50), Mattie Clair Worthington (23rd, 27:04.00) and Aurie Taylor (24th, 27:11.30).
Coffee won the girls division with 27 points, with Jeff Davis close behind at 33 points. Camden County was third with 82.
Across the four races, Jeff Davis collected 17 Top 10 individual medals, highlighted by Roberson’s individual victory and runner-up performances from Cabrera, Mincey and Haley.
With both middle school teams standing atop the team results and both varsity squads finishing second, it was another impressive day on the course for JDXC.
