Jeff Davis won a big ballgame last Friday night, and Kobe Hill played a big role in final outcome, too. That’s the main reason the standout for the Yellow Jackets has been chosen by 912 Sports for the Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week honor in our Southeast Georgia coverage area.
In a 29-20 win at Fitzgerald in the Region 1-AA opener for both teams, Hill, a starting fullback and linebacker, rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns while also making a whopping 17 tackles for the Yellow Jackets.
His 25-yard scoring run late in the fourth quarter clinched the win for Jeff Davis. For good measure, Hill also forced a fumble and broke up a pass as the Jackets improved to 5-0 overall with the victory.
“Kobe Hill’s impact on our team cannot be measured,” said Jeff Davis head coach Lance Helton. “He is a vocal leader and shows up with a desire to be great every day. Jeff Davis Football is proud of the player and young man that Kobe is.”
Hill, who stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 210 pounds, has 458 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns on 56 carries in the first five games for the Jackets. He has compiled 46 tackles, a tackle for a loss and a sack through five games. He also has forced two fumbles so far this season.
This week, the Jackets were ranked No. 2 in Class AA after climbing five spots from No. 7 in the state poll. This is the highest ranking for the team since 1962. Jeff Davis is off this week and will return to the field Oct. 9 against Bacon County.
