Jeff Davis Primary School has plenty to celebrate after students posted significant literacy gains across Kindergarten, first grade and second grade, helping the school rank No. 2 in the entire First District RESA region for English Language Arts growth.
Results from the First District RESA Literacy Screener show improvement at every grade level reported, with especially strong gains from the beginning measurement to the latest results. Kindergarten students increased from 22% to 71%, representing a 49-point gain. First-grade students moved from 8% to 62%, a 54-point increase, while second-grade students improved from 16% to 55%, gaining 39 points.
Taken together, Jeff Davis Primary recorded 47.3% overall growth, placing the school second in the First District RESA region. According to information released by the school, that performance was 14.6 points above the state RESA average.
The results represent more than improved percentages for Jeff Davis Primary. School officials say they reflect the combined efforts of students, educators and families working together to strengthen early literacy skills during some of the most important years in a child’s education.
Jeff Davis Primary celebrated the achievement, saying: “We are incredibly proud of the hard work behind these numbers, from our students & teachers to the families who support them every step of the way. K-2 made some big moves! THIS is something to celebrate!”
The school also pointed to the No. 2 regional ranking as evidence of the progress being made across all three grade levels. “Our Primary students are making remarkable strides & we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate. This growth reflects the dedication of our students, teachers & families working together to help every child move forward.”
The latest results add another positive academic achievement for Jeff Davis County Schools and demonstrate substantial growth among some of the district’s youngest learners.
