Jeff Davis and Vidalia split a Thursday doubleheader in Vidalia, with the Jackets taking the opener 7-2 before Vidalia held off a late JD charge for a 12-10 victory in Game 2. The Jackets collected 23 hits across the two games, while Briley Reagin turned in a complete-game performance in the opener and later went 4-for-4 with a home run in Game 2.
Game 1: Jeff Davis 7, Vidalia 2
Vidalia struck first in the opener, scoring on a Jeff Davis error in the bottom of the first inning. The Jackets answered in the third when Abby Williams delivered an RBI single to left field to tie the game at 1-1.
Jeff Davis took control in the fourth. Gabby Taylor singled home the go-ahead run, and Mikelynn Jones followed with a double as the Jackets built a 4-1 advantage. JD continued adding to its lead on the way to the 7-2 victory.
Reagin went the distance in the circle, allowing two runs — only one earned — on seven hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking two. Jeff Davis finished with 10 hits. Williams, Mattie Walsh and Savanna Robinette had two hits apiece, while Ava Bohannon and Jones each drove in two runs.
Game 2: Vidalia 12, Jeff Davis 10
The nightcap turned into an offensive battle, with the teams combining for 27 hits and 22 runs. Jeff Davis grabbed an early lead when Robinette singled home a run in the first and Walsh added an RBI single in the second, putting the Jackets ahead 2-0.
Vidalia changed the game in the bottom of the fourth, scoring seven runs to take a 7-2 lead. But the Jackets responded immediately — and in a big way.
Jeff Davis erupted for seven runs in the top of the fifth to regain the lead, 9-7. The biggest hit came from Anna Grace Alligood, who blasted a three-run home run to left field.
Vidalia answered again, eventually retaking the lead in the bottom of the sixth and carrying a 12-9 advantage into the final inning. But, Jeff Davis wasn’t finished. Reagin launched a solo home run to center field in the top of the seventh, cutting the deficit to two, but Vidalia was able to close out the 12-10 win.
Reagin had a huge game at the plate, finishing a perfect 4-for-4, while Williams went 3-for-5. Alligood led the Jackets with three RBIs, and Bohannon reached on three walks and stole two bases. Jeff Davis finished Game 2 with 13 hits and six walks.
The Jackets leave Vidalia with a doubleheader split after showing plenty of fight in both games — including overcoming a five-run deficit to retake the lead in the nightcap before Vidalia rallied back.
